If you don’t know about Olaolu Slawn, you better ask somebody. This week, the Nigerian-British artist teamed up with Red Bull Racing’s Formula 1 team to adorn two F1 cars with his trademark artistic style. 

 

Set to be featured at the British Grand Prix, Formula 1 is truly a sport on the rise. Slawn’s artwork comes on the heels of the release of Brad Pitt’s F1 movie, further proving that Formula 1 has cemented itself in the culture this year.

In recent years, the sport has gained popularity among socialites and celebrities, who are now a regular sight in the Grand Prix stands. The sport is evolving, with progress including the incorporation of women through the F1 academy.

 

The influence of Lewis Hamilton on the cultural rise of F1 cannot be ignored, as he has spearheaded drivers cultivating cultural presence alongside their athletic performance. 

At WINK, we can’t help but wonder what traditional F1 fans think of the sport’s growing mainstream appeal.

 

It’s no secret that Formula 1 has historically been an elitist sport, with barriers to success for drivers from low socio-economic and ethnically diverse backgrounds. However, as the sport grows, so does its cultural reach. ​​
